在室外和潮湿环境中安装电伴热带时，需要选择机械性能高、防水性能好的型号，但安装隔热层和防水层也很重要。因为一旦电伴热系统浸入雨水中，其隔热能力将大大降低。如果外护套损坏，则可能导致电击穿和火花。因此，为防止电伴热带损坏，绝缘测试合格后应尽快安装绝缘层和防水层。
保温层和防水层是电伴热带系统的重要组成部分，必须严格按照设计要求安装。保温层安装在电伴热带表面，以防止热量损失和集中供热。同时，保温层还起到隔离和保护的作用，延长了电伴热带的使用寿命。
安装保温层时，保温材料必须干燥，因为潮湿的保温材料影响保温效果，也会腐蚀电伴热产品，缩短整个电伴热保温系统的使用寿命。保温材料安装完毕后，必须立即安装防水层，否则会降低保温性能，影响伴热系统的正常使用。安装防水层时，应防止金属板切割电伴热带的护套，固定防水铁皮的螺钉不得过长，以免刺穿护套。
